Your community engagement plan, explained

What is a community engagement plan?

A community engagement plan sets out which decisions residents help shape, when, and how: the methods, the timing and how you report back on what you heard. The Participation Planner builds one from the priorities already in your strategic plan, so engagement follows the work you've committed to.

How does the Participation Planner work?

Upload your strategic plan as a PDF. We read it once and list the projects that would benefit from residents' input. You choose the ones that matter, set your team's capacity and deadlines, and the planner spreads them over the year so residents aren't asked too much at once. Open a project to get its phases, online and in-person methods, a reach plan and an action plan.

Who is it for?

Engagement, communications and strategy staff in cities and counties who need to plan when and how residents get a say in the projects of their strategic plan.

Is it free? Do I need an account?

Yes, it's free. There's no account or password; we ask for your name and work email before the calendar opens. Download your plan as a PDF to share with your team and your elected officials.

What happens to the document I upload?

We read your PDF once to find the projects in it and don't keep the document.

What are the methods and timing based on?

On more than 25,000 real community engagement projects run by local governments. Every project that asks residents for input ends with a report back, and the planner avoids opening projects during the summer break and the year-end holidays.

Which languages and countries does it work for?

It works in English, Dutch, French, German and Danish, for local governments worldwide. Your plan is written in the language of your document.
